I am sending this email because you requested the TWiki source in the past and asked to be notified of new releases. Please drop me a line if you do not wish to receive further TWiki announcements.

A new TWiki version is available: Production release 01 May 2000. You can download the zipped version at http://TWiki.SourceForge.net/TWiki20000501.zip

Changes since the last production release (01 Sep 1999)

• Statistics about usage and contributions. This can be used for an incentive program to give the collaborations a jump-start, i.e. elect a "contributor of the month"
• Inline search using %SEARCH{"str" ...}% variable.
• Preferences like edit box size can be set by editing topics. There site-level, web-level and user-level preferences.
• Better security with taint checking (perl -T option).
• Uploading a file (topic file attachment) will optionally create a link to the uploaded file at the end of the topic, or show the image inline for JPG and GIF files.
• Some other minor changes.

We are looking for contributors! See details in the ReadmeFirst topic of the TWiki.Codev developers web at http://TWiki.SourceForge.net/cgi-bin/view/Codev/ . Fist of all I suggest you to subscribe in WebNotify of the TWiki.Codev web so that you stay up to date on the latest development issues.

TWiki is getting very popular, there are many downloads per day. TWiki is mainly used behind corporate firewalls. Some major companies in the computer industry and news media industry are using TWiki as an internal collaboration tool. This is a good sign that TWiki will take off. Interesting times ahead! And you could be part of it as a contributor! We also get some press coverage, one example is by BYTE's columnist Jon Udell at http://www.byte.com/column/BYT20000427S0001 .

As a reminder, there are two types of TWiki releases: Beta and production releases.

• Production releases: Released not so frequently. New users can request it from the http://TWiki.SourceForge.net/download.html page. Existing users will be notified if requested.

• Beta releases: Betas are frequently released (We can generate a Beta distribution release simply by executing a script). New Betas are not announced, but can be downloaded from the beta download directory. The URL is available upon request.
