Announcement of Production Release
Dear TWiki User,
I am sending this email because you requested the TWiki
source in the past and asked to be notified of new
production releases. Please drop me a line if you do not
wish to receive further TWiki announcements.
A new TWiki version is available:
Production release 01 Dec 2000. Download it from
http://TWiki.org/
...
Changes since the last production release (01 May 2000)
- Fine grained access control with authorization based on groups.
- Advanced search features for searching multiple webs; sorting by topic name / modified time / author and more.
- Fixed security issue to prevent a server side Warning: Can't find topic "".""
of arbitrary files.
- More forgiving Wiki syntax.
- All known issues of the 01 May 2000 release have been fixed.
- Some other changes and fixes.
The complete change history is at
http://TWiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/TWikiHistory
Upgrading from the 01 May 2000 version is described in
http://TWiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/TWikiUpgradeNotes
NOTE: If you requested the source after mid November you
already have this version, so you do not need to upgrade.
As you noticed we have a new domain
http://TWiki.org/
,
but it is still hosted at
SourceForge at the usual place.
(This TWiki release announcement was delayed because all
docs refer to TWiki.org and there was an intermittent
"404 Page Not Found" problem with the TWiki.org server
that had to be fixed first.)
The place to collaborate on the TWiki development is at
http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/WebHome
.
ReadmeFirst tells you more about our development process.
TWiki is unsupported software, so please do not contact
the TWiki developers if you have a technical question. A
new TWiki.Support web has been established for people who
have a technical question or any question about the TWiki
deployment. This support web is for TWiki users by TWiki
users. Some TWiki developers are also monitoring this
support web, but don't necessarily answer questions.
Access at
http://TWiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Support/WebHome
.
TWiki is getting more and more popular. We have now many
downloads per day. TWiki is mainly used behind corporate
firewalls, including many major companies, like 3Com, AMD,
Alcatel, Amazon.com, AT&T , .... through Xerox.
TWiki got some good marks in the press, i.e. check out
the Software Carpentry, Internet Groupware for Scientific
Collaboration, by Jon Udell, at
http://software-carpentry.codesourcery.com/Groupware/report.html
.
I had the opportunity to write an article for the
December issue of the Web Techniques magazine, which is
about collaboration. Check it out at
http://www.webtechniques.com/
Last but not least, word of mouth is a good way of
spreading the TWiki tool; any help is appreciated! More
exposure means more contributions, thus a better tool!
*** REQUEST FOR PAPER:
If you have a successful deployment of TWiki we would
really appreciate if you could support the TWiki
community by writing a TWiki success story. This helps
in promoting the tool, which in turn will result in a
better product. More on that at
http://TWiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Main/TWikiSuccessStories
Best regards and happy TWiki'ing,
Peter

There have been many contributions since the last release;
and there are many contributions that could not make it
into this release. More to come soon. Thanks everyone for
the ongoing effort!
