ABOUT NEW OFFICE In Gurgaon

  • Situated at 64, HARTRON Complex, STP, Sector 18, Gurgaon (Next to Hughes office)
  • Present construction includes Basement and Ground floor. There is a permission to build another floor.

SUGGESTIONS

  • SEATING CAPACITY - Present seating capacity should be about 45 with additional 25 capacity on the first floor.
  • SEATING Arrangement - As much privacy to each individual as possible with as much space as possible.
  • CONFERENCE ROOMS - 2 small (5-6 ppl) and 1 big (10-11 ppl) on ground floor and basement with additiotnal capacity on first floor
  • LUNCH SPACE - There has to be an arrangement for bigger lunch space/modified conference room
  • Toilet - Ideally have 2 toilets per floor (i.e every 25 ppl). One of the Toilets should preferrably have a shower also.
  • There should be a pantry (It is already there on the ground-floor)
  • RECREATION/RESTING Place - There should be a space for recreation/resting and have a library there. The place should be such that one can even sleep in the night if he wants. We've slept enough on floor
  • CABIN/CUBICLE Arrangement - There should be at least 2 ethernet points with each cubicle. The height of workstation should suggestively be a little (1"-2") over the current height of 604 workstations. There should be a keyboard tray with enough spcae to keep the mouse also.
  • There should be a resting place for the legs under the work-station
  • Power points should not only be under the work-station so that one has to bend-down. They should be on top of the workstation also.
  • The air-conditioning should be efficient in terms of few ppl staying at night.
  • There should be Flooring.
  • RECEPTION - (Anybody editing the page, please do not delete this point ) There should be reception with space to seat 3-4 ppl.
  • HARTRON (Haryana Govt.) does provide power backup but we should have our own small digiset as well.
  • CABINS - There should be cabins for managers
  • Printer space per 10 ppl
  • SERVER ROOM - equipped with a facility of Hardware/Software inventory
  • Water Dispenser and Coffee Dispenser on each floor. We can also have the option of our own Reverse Osmosis systems on each floor. We will be more sure of the water we are drinking.
  • We should have as many whiteboards as we can, with special Readonly notice boards as well.
  • There should be live-plants for greenery in the office.
  • COLOUR-SCHEME : Please suggest some lively colour scheme.
  • Apart from cabins we should also have test-beds for QA
  • There should be individual telephone lines for each cubicle
  • There should be a cupboard for Helmets.
  • There should be a security guard.
  • There should be a underground water-tank for water shortage problems, if any. An overhead tank and Tullu pump is obviously a must.
  • Emergency systems like Fire-Extinguisher should also be kept in mind.
  • Network Planning should be done.
  • Disposal of Rainwater in the backyard

  • At least 15-20 power-points per seat. (hub/laptop/desktop/PDA charger/Cell-phone charger/DigiCam charger/speakers/mp3-players/Friend's cell-phone charger/fancy diwali lights/personal burglar alarm)
  • Enough seating space per table that 3 people can discuss/review code. Space (power-points/ethernet ports) for setting additional temporary desktops/laptops.
  • I also vote for shower (especially for those who want to Jog/BiCycle to office)
  • Network and power cables shouldnt be close (causes interferance over long distances)
  • Pantry should have an exhaust (Currently doesnt has one)
  • Corridors etc... should be long/wide enough to take-a-small-walk while thinking (or pretending to be thinking )

Web Team

  • Antiglare screen (at least for those who want it)
  • RELIABLE net connection (needs special consideration)
  • Individual drawer
  • Smart Cards
  • First Aid Box

  • For better utilisation of space, confrence rooms should be on the basement only (subsequently on the 1st also), small independent ones that can be clubbed into a bigger one. Size of confrence rooms should be such that they accomodate atleast 6-8 people, as 4 people would be have a cubicle to themselves.
  • Consideration over the placement of the generator (if we plan to have), enquire wether keeping on the roof is a viable solution (Both, permission for errection of a shed and Vibrations, long term effect on the strength of the building).
  • Library Space- Agree with Vineet. Books to be kept and maintained in a controlled manner.
  • The storage space should be customised to keep the inventory as per the item being stored
  • Level of the Work desk should be adjustable as per the height of the person. Arrangement of study lights, pen stands at indivual seats.
  • Agree with Sachin as reagards with the wiring, the wiring should be such that no clutter is caused. Wiring of the Network should be such that the wires are not exposed out, but they can be easily changed when the need arises.Proper marking of cables. Use cordless phones instead of the ordinary sets.
  • Company Notice baord at the enterance. Common space in each cubicle where a white board and the cordless phone & other items of common use are placed.
  • Instalation of a security system, smoke detectors.
  • If we plan to have a Gym and some recreational space it should be isolated from the work area. (PS : The idea of Gym should be considered inevitable.) Good Music system with custom designed speakers is very important to create a great ambience.
  • Arrangement of heating during winters, space for placing of blowers.
  • Problem of Water logging to be explored, if water clogs elevation at the entrance to be raised.
  • Point to ponder- Do we really need a Security Gaurd, why not have a single person who manages the enterance, the reception, takes care of the admin issues like payments of bills, inventory of stationary and other misc issues. Arrangement for accomodation of this person is also required. (SG: All this can be done by a beautiful receptionist wink As for gaurd, we are not CLOSED for more than 6-7 hours at night or weekends, do we really need one?)

  • Please ponder regarding the Cab issue :). As we all know that our new office is situated quite far away from the main highway road and thus will be pretty difficult to commute. So I believe, Cabs should be started so as to overcome everyones commuting problems. ( PS: Just so others don't get scared, New office is approx same distance as current one from highway, exact 2 kms to be precise )
  • Centralized Air Conditioning system, if possible.

Punit Sindhwani

  • Storage for not so commonly used stuff like boxes, old computers. may be some overhead storage space for the same.
  • Accounting/Admin/HR Department space
  • Storage space for Paper Plates/napkins/toiletries etc

QA Team

  • The architecture should be efficient from communication prospective i.e. all the team members could communicate with each other and also with team lead easily and vice versa.
  • Any type of partition between two cubes should be made of glass or, of short height so that members can talk easily.
  • There should be an extra rack to keep the extra m/c cabinet as we had decided earlier that sooner or later all QA will have an extra m/c.
  • Please keep in mind that sooner or later, we will have three separate teams separately for Windows, Web and MAC/Linux and all will have a team lead. And on top of all the lead there will a Quality Analyst / Project Manager. So, design the lab accordingly.
  • Printer should be easily accessible.
  • Telephone line should be available on each desk.
