MyStatusPlugin Idea

The status update is a very popular feature of FaceBook. Web 2.0 is entering the workplace slowly but surely. TWiki can gain popularity by supporting this trend. This plugin idea is for a Facebook like status update feature.

Rough spec:

• Show status of user in user's homepage. This is done with a %MYSTATUS{%TOPIC%}% variable.
  • Default message: (status not set)
  • Clicking on the message allows the user (and only the user) to change the status message.
• Possible to show the status updates of a list of friends. This is done with a %MYSTATUS{action="showstatusupdates" friends="ArthurClemens, KennethLavrsen, KoenMartens"}% variable.

Spinning the idea further, this feature could be part of a MyFriendsPlugin which offers some of the Facebook features:

• Search for friends
• Invite friends
• Invited friend confirms/ignores invite
• Show list of friends: All, recently added, recently updated
• Edit/show my profile
• Show updates of my friends

This functionality is mainly interesting to organizations of 1000 or more employees, and less of a value to SMBs.
