Question
I want to mark this question as "Answered" but don't know how to do it.
Also, I have moved the core-file analysis emphasis to
CoreFileFound2004Apr12.

================================================
This now appears to be an outgoing-email problem. I get to this point at the end of this Question seciton.

I am attaching a core file I found in my sites's /twiki/bin directory. Does anyone have the capability to analyze core files? I haven't done it in years...but I might be able to do something if need be. For now I'm logging the bug.
I have also noticed that my
TWikiRegistration form hangs when I submit the data--although the user registration data is saved and committed and is show elsewhere, the submit-button process just hanges.
I'm not sure if these 2 things (the core and the hang) are related, but I suspect they are.
I may be doing more testing on this end. For now, this TWiki intranet installation has gone sour, and I'm still trying to stay on the TWiki (albeit much more complicated) path. I'm trying hard not to be seduced by the easy
MediaWiki way.

I have attached my testenv output.

After further review, it looks like my system if failing due to an outbound-email problem:
"
Attention
Send Mail Error
The e-mail could not be delivered. Please notify your TWiki administrator, XXXXXXXXX
ERROR: Can't send mail using Net::SMTP (can't connect to 'mail')
OK
"
Since the time when I last tried running my sites
TWikiRegistration, I have 1) changed the resgistration form to remove several fields, include the intranet-user field, and 2) edited the WIKIWEBMASTER variable value (in the appropriate topic--I forget which one) to be a valid email address. Also, the last time I saw the server "hang," I may not have waited long enough to see a response.
I suppose that one of the old states could have contributed to teh core file...if the core file was generated via this registration process. In any case, this core file truly concerns me.
Regardless of the core file issues: I now want to fix my outbound-email process. The easiest thing seems to be to make my output bound email gizmo be an smtp client, and point it to my nice, qmail-based, smtp server running at localhost. How do I do this?
Does this above error suggests that the email is trying to get out via a Perl module (Net::SMTP)? For what it's worth, I want all outbound email to go through my qmail smtp server.
Also: is there any way to control the "timeout" associated with this process...such that the "hang" doesn't last any more then I want it to? Is there a global mechanism to control all timeouts per site?
Thanks for any help.

Answer
Fyi: I'm reading about email config stuff in
CantConnectToMail. If that answer(s) does not solve my problem, I'll followup here.

Ok, I've got the registration form working now as well as the outbound email notification per this registration.
I'll now make a separate note requesting core file analysis.

How can one mark a question like this as Answered?
--
MattEngland - 12 Apr 2005
That's an easy one

Just use the
Edit link at the bottom of this topic. Then you may change the
SupportStatus in the
WebForm to
AnsweredQuestions. I know that's not very intuitive, but there's an ongoing discussion about this and some other matters regarding
TWikiForms handling, so I guess this will be settled soon.
Hint: Please add
* Set RELEASEEDITLOCKCHECKBOX = checked="checked"
to your hometopic or remember to release the edit lock on the topics you have changed when you are finished, so that others may respond more quickly without breaking your lock (this issue is solved in the upcoming
DakarRelease).

I added the above variable setting to my hometopic. I'm curious: how do I release an edit lock without saving my changes (and does the "save the change" operation release the edit lock)? Do I just close the "edit"? I'm confused. I'm sure there's a topic on this somewhere.
