Question

We've been using TWiki for over 2 years (it's awesome). In the past 5 months, we've been encountering attachments that are missing. When I look in the pub directory, the files are gone. Sometimes it's just 4-5 files, sometimes it is every file in the pub dir. This has happened 5 times now, every few weeks, at random intervals, and not associated with any specific action (we typically add the attachments and then reference them - write once, read many). I'm looking at upgrading to the latest version, but I'd like to know if this is a known problem. Help! It's a pain to keep going to tape backups.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease01Dec2001
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: Solaris 2.6
Web server: Apache/1.3.26
Perl version: 5.6
Client OS: Solaris 2.6, Windows 2000 SP2?, Windows XP SP1
Web Browser: Netscape 4.7, netscape 7.1, IE6.0, IE5.x

Answer

Very odd, I have never seen that. Except in the early days of TWiki.org on SourceForge where a malicious script was removing all files in most projects belonging to nobody. That hole has been plugged on the file level by setting one of the TWiki parent dirs to drwxrwx--x.

Let us know when you find out. There might be some monitoring software where you can detect who/what is deleting files.
