Question

I am having a strange problem that happens intermittently. After clicking the "Edit" button on a topic clicking either the "Save" or "Preview" the browser will wait for several minutes and eventually return a blank page. If the "Edit" was clicked the changes were not recorded. It doesn't seem to matter if you log in before or after clicking "Edit".

The server access log gives the following output at the time that the empty page is displayed.

10.45.42.71 - - [28/Jan/2008:13:37:41 -0800] "POST /twiki/bin/save/DM/ServerPortLIst HTTP/1.1" 401 -

However, if the topic has a "Comment" or an "edit table" for the same user, same host, same browser they can add a comment or update the table.

Also seems to happen only on some client systems mostly laptops. Perhaps it may be related the fact that they are coming through a VPN. That said it has also happened systems that are behind our firewall as well.

I am stumped and am getting pressure from my boss to fix this since he is one of those who cannot make edits.

Hi, This is still a problem that I am fighting. Some users are not able to save after editing a topic.

Also some people are not able to upload a file after running the attache script.

In both instances the access_log reports a 401 error on the script with 0 length data sent back to the client.

I have tried asking a couple of times on the irc channel but don't yet any idea what's happening.

I remember somebody had the same problem before (Kenneth?) and that it was because the server where TWiki was hosted had more than one IP, and the problem happened if the save was not performed with the same IP than the edit. Or maybe the client is changing IPs? (may be a problem with VPN): Try disabling the EXPERT configure option in Security section {Sessions}{UseIPMatching}
