Question

Many of our users search our TWiki installation using google. We have TWiki access control setup in many webs such that TWikiGuest can not view topics. Therefore search robots can not access the web.

Does anyone know how to allow goole to process a protected web but keeping the results within the confines of the groups of users that have access

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x01x02
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: RedHat Linux
Web server: Apache
Perl version: 5.8
Client OS: Windows, Linux, Mac
Web Browser: IE, firefox, Safari
Categories: Search

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

You cannot do this with the public google engine. You must use a dedicated search engine, able to manage "credentials" such as ... the Google Search Appliance http://www.google.com/enterprise/gsa/ or http://www.exalead.com/ . I did not try the open source search engines able to manage protected pages, but you may want to look at http://www.simplexo.com/ (or look at: http://www.searchtools.com/tools/tools-opensource.html)

The other way is to use "native" TWiki integration with search engines: look at: SearchEngineKinoSearchAddOn
