Question
I have 4.0.0 installed. I would like to upgrade to 4.0.5.
I thought I'd apply the 4.0.1 patch, then 4.0.2, then the 4.0.2 to 4.0.5, however, the 4.0.1 patch failed on all hunks!
What's my best strategy? Is it to install a new tree of 4.0.5 and migrate my users, webs, and data files? How do I do that?
Or, should I pursue the patch scheme, and maybe replace only changed files manually?
Thanks,
Dan

This is the topic for you.
UpgradingTWiki04x00PatchReleases
My advice is NOT to use any upgrade scripts. I have found it to mess up more than it fixes. Use the manual process.
It is the step from 4.0.0 to 4.0.2 that can cause some adjustments IF you did a lot of tailoring. If not it is quite easy.
From 4.0.2 to 4.0.5 it is just a matter of upgradeing files.
The diff files (patches) always fails for most because there are always some small things here and there that one has changed and then the patching fails and you have to be a developer and know what to do about it. This is why I started making the the hotfixes that always replace entire files. That is fool proof.
So follow the
UpgradingTWiki04x00PatchReleases that I wrote. And after 1-2 hours you will have a fully functioning 4.0.5 including all your tailorings.
And if you did not tailor anything then this topic is actually also a pretty good indirect advice on how to do it and how not to do it.
