Question

I've spent the past few weeks trying to get formatted search to work - I've tried every example, every possible configuration, to no avail. No results are ever returned. Is there some way to test and see if the search function even works on my installation?

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

Search works if you can search properly in your WebSearch topic. If this does not work, something is wrong with your setup. Check the egrep and fgrep settings in configure.

Search only seems to find things in topic titles, not in text (or metadata), regardless of the search parameters. Can this be a setup problem? If so, what to do? I'm not the one responsible for the installation I'm using, and am trying to figure out what to tell the tech guy, who does not have a vested interest in trying to figure out the ins and outs of TWiki... all help greatly appreciated!

There is something wrong with your installation. Search on topic title is done in pure Perl, search in files is done with fgrep and egrep. Ask you admin to run the TWiki configure script and check the {RCS}{EgrepCmd} and {RCS}{FgrepCmd} settings.
