does anyone have any info on installing TWIKI on a 1&1 hosted environment?
I'm having a hard time here
Beef-
http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki04/TWikiInstallationGuide
you can even check my config
http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/bin/configure.cgi
Beef-
http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/bin/view.cgi somehow this doesn't want to work
-
wbniv clicking away...
wbniv
Beef-: you have access to the server's error_log ?
Beef-
where would that be saved wbniv?
wbniv
depends on your web hosting smile
for DH, it's in ~/logs/domainName/http/error_log
can you search for that while i read over your settings?
you might have access to the file
or
it might be in some sort of control panel
Beef-
I have access.log.16.4 in the logs directory, timestamped today
wbniv
that's the other file
you want error_log
it'll probably be nearby that one, tho
Beef-
nope nothing in that dir
I hate 1&1
nothing in the panel either
I think i'll go with dreamhost
wbniv
but? you already have a webhosting provider
your paths look ok
http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/bin/view.cgi/TWiki/TWikiReferenceManual mostly looks right
at this point, i'd guess that your permissions on pub aren't correct
which should be
lemme check
what are you permissions in pub ?
Beef-
drwxr-xr-x
wbniv
i'd recommend 660
but what you have should work too
actually, your access log might be useful now
what do you see in it?
are there requests for pub that say access denied or no?
Beef-
http://www.rajv.net/access.log.16.4.txt
wbniv
hm, i try to access http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/pub/TWiki/PatternSkin/layout.css directly, and get an access denied error
do you have .htaccess files setup
esp. in pub ?
Beef-
no
-
wbniv scratches head
Beef-
I have an htaccess for a different part of site
that wouldn't affect this right?
wbniv
i don't think so
is it site-wide, or just for certain directories
just for specific directories, i imagine
Beef-
just for stuff under a specific dir structure
wbniv
right
however, when http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/pub/TWiki/PatternSkin/layout.css works, you'll mostly be done
ok, maybe your permissions are too permissive
some installations are like that
so,
can you change pub on down to 660 ?
Beef-
ok that's wierd
wbniv
mind you, that may not be the problem
Beef-
when I try to access a dir I get access denied from my shell
wbniv
but i have seen it before
so, perhaps ownership issues ?
how did you untar twiki ?
Beef-
yeah
ok when I chmod 777 that director it works
wbniv
blech
but ok
how about 770 ?
Beef-
yeah, now i'll try narrowing it down
wbniv
ah, but i still can't load http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/pub/TWiki/PatternSkin/layout.css
and check the permissions on the directory
and the directories above it
Beef-
how do I recursively chmod directories
I suck with shell
wbniv
chmod -R
Beef-
oh -R
thanks man
wbniv
np
Beef-
man chmod
haha
so 770 sound resonable?
wbniv
well, somewhat
but for now, yeah
660 is really what you want
but make it more permissive for now
Beef-
wbniv : I think I have some sort of basic access
but I'm having so much access troubles creating a web that I don't think it's worth it
Beef-
it shouldn't be this difficult
wbniv
nope frown
Beef-
I'll just go with mediawiki then
wbniv
but i still can't see http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/pub/TWiki/PatternSkin/layout.css and until that works, it's not going to look right
nor will attachments work
Beef-
thanks for you help though
try now
I was just playing with permissions
wbniv
ooh
that worked
i can see it
ok, checking a real page now
what did you do to the permissions, btw ?
Beef-
try creating a web or something
I had to go 754
745 rather
wbniv
yay! it looks good
745, how strange
Beef-
but try creating soemthing, it gives you permissions denied
it needs execute permissions for ALL
for some reason
wbniv
VERY strange
Beef-
I'm no expert but I don't get it
wbniv
create something? meaning edit a page?
Beef-
yeah
-
wbniv tries in Sandbox
Beef-
or how does it know I'm the admin?
where do I login
i've never used this syetem before
wbniv
ah, you haven't set that up yet
it's in configure
editting sanbox works, btw
the TWiki web is protected because it contains "system" files
Beef-
http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/bin/configure.cgi you mean here?
wbniv
yup
in security setup
you should choose a login manager
but right now it does work
it's just open to the whole world smile
i'd recommend the TemplateLogin
Security Setup | Authentication
Beef-
ok thanks
wbniv
np smile
http://www.rajv.net/Twiki/bin/view.cgi/Sandbox/TestPage
wbniv
be sure to subscribe to https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/twiki-announce for security alerts
assuming you continue with twiki, that is, and not mediawiki
Beef-
awesome
wbniv
good luck
oh, please make a support request on http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Support about 1&1 and how you had to set the permissions
Beef-
ah
ok lemme try
oh jesus email hasn't been setup
Beef-
wbniv: dude thanks for your help.. i'm just tired of fiddling with settings now
maybe I'll try later

Beef- has quit IRC ("thanks again")
