Question

Hey guys, I admit I haven't spent hours reading through EditTablePluginDev. It's such a complicated read, I'm hoping one of the gurus might be able to spot the problem right off ?

When installing EditTablePlugin on CairoRelease, I get the following "success" from the installer script. Afterwards, the plugin does not appear in my list of activated plugins and the %EDITTABLE{}% variable appears in topics as plain text. I have ensured that ownership & permissions are set correctly at the OS level.

PICK Two questions :

  1. If the installer script says it installed, why would it not appear in TWikiPlugins ?
  2. What are TWiki::Merge & LWP, and do I need them ?

Thanks so much !!!

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

You should really just install it manually.

  • Copy all the files on top of your twiki tree.
  • Make sure the new files have the right owner and access rights.
  • And then it should work.

The installer script has always caused me more trouble. It is so easy to just unpack the zip and copy all the files on top of the twiki file tree.

The EditTablePlugin is a default plugin - also in Cairo. So I assume you are upgrading it - not installing it from new. It is the same procedure. Just copy on top.

Thanks Kevin.

Actually, the first time around I did install it manually and nothing happened. That is to say that I:

  1. downloaded the EditTablePlugin.tgz
  2. untar'd it and changed the file ownership
  3. found that the %EDITTABLE{}% variable appeared in topics as plain text

Only then did I try to run the installer script, which I noticed had also come along in the package. The installer script didn't fix anything, and that's when I asked for help.

On your advice I just switched over and this time downloaded the .zip file and everything seems to be working correctly. Perhaps there's a problem with the .tgz ?
