Question

Hi, I want to create a new TWiki installation and move some webs of another TWiki installation into the new one because these webs fit better to the new one.

  • Can I simply copy the webs to the new TWiki installation or do I have to adjust some files? I do not know what exactly happens if I create a new web (for example to which files the new web name is written etc).
  • Can I simply remove the web in the other TWiki installation or do I have to remove entries in some files?

Thanks for your help!

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x01x02
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: RedHat Linux
Web server: Apache
Perl version: 5.8
Client OS: Windows XP Service Pack2
Web Browser: Internet Explorer, Firefox
Categories: Installation

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

In what I consider one of top under-appreciated virtues of TWiki's file-based system, you can move a TWiki web to another TWiki installation by simply moving the web's associated data and pub directories. Nothing else is required. If you already have a web with the same name in the new installation, you can move individual topic files (and assoicated directories under pub if the the topics have attachments).

Make sure to fix also file permissions and ownership.
