Question

We just installed a new TWiki site, and by default some users already are listed in the Users list, such as NicholasLee and PeterThoeny. Also, a number of 'Topics' for other old users (contributors to the Twiki project) already exist in the topic lists.

Obviously, some of these are simply there because many of the pages are written by these users.

I now wonder whether and how one should remove these users from non-Twiki.org Twiki sites? Willk that hurt (make all of the signatures end up as non-existing WikiWords and thus look ugly)? Could one just use some script to turn all of those signatures into mailto: links (or links to their resp. pages in Twiki.org rather than local pages)?

thanks

Answer

I agree - these users should be removed from Main into the TWiki web, and the .htpasswd file should be delivered empty. There are probably a lot of sites that are still using the default password file...

Peter - there are a few things like this that could be done using a 'build' script that filters out certain topics from the beta setup. However, I'm not sure of the exact steps for building a beta, maybe you can advise.

I already use a handcrafted Perl build script that patches some files and creates the ZIP file. I will change it over time.
