Question

Hi,

In order to simplify my Twiki installation I thought I would remove the existing webs in order to start from an empty install. However, I have moved the Twiki Web to Trash and now my Twiki doesn't work. It has lost all of it's formatting from the Pattern Skin and many of the links don't work anymore.

Is it not possible to trim down the installation to get rid of the 'Main' 'SandBox' and 'Twiki' webs without it breaking?

Can anybody help please?

TIA

Nicholas

You cannot remove TWiki web, Main web and Trash web. You can however rename them on the configure page.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. If you can't remove them can you make them invisible? I don't want to overwhelm my users by having these webs. I think it will be an easier experience for the non IT literate.

To make a web invisible, see the SITEMAPLIST and NOSEARCHALL setting in WebPreferences for that web. Trash is already invisible by default (except to TWikiAdminGroup).

LynnwoodBrown,

Thanks for your response. Simply put my problem is this...If it's hard for me as an admin to set the thing up then it's going to be harder for my users to use.

As an example...you explain that to make a site invisible see the SITEMAPLIST and NOSEARCHALL setting in WebPreferences. Fine...but NOSEARCHALL isn't there on the WebPreferences for the web and if it is then it's not clear what one has to do with it!!!

The whole point of a 'T''Wiki' is that it's as easy as pie to run and use...if it's not then what's the point??? I know that in my office there's going to be a tipping point of usability about this project...ie if it isn't really really user friendly then people won't buy into it and it will fail....

...

TIA

nicholas

Nicholas, please read TWikiVariables, it explains the sequence of pref variable evaluation. For example, if you do not find the NOSEARCHALL setting in the WebPreferences you can copy the setting from the top level TWikiPreferences.

You as an admin can familiarize yourself with the TWiki system, so that you know how to tailor the system for your user base. TWiki has a lot of power under the hood, the trick is to start simple and use advanced features only when/as needed.
