SID-00479: Changing a user's email address

Status: Answered Answered TWiki version: 4.2.0 Perl version:
Category: CategoryAuthentication Server OS: Last update: 16 years ago

  1. A user forgot his password and asked me to reset it.
  2. I filled out the password reset form for him.
  3. He didn't get the email... apparently his email address was entered wrong.
  4. I (an admin) went to the "change email address" page... but it won't let me change the user's email address without knowing the password... and there's know way to get the password without first changing the email address!

Is there any way out of this catch-22, short of editing the .htpasswd file directly?

Discussion and Answer

You need to edit the .htpasswd file to fix the e-mail address of the user. After that, the user can reset the password.
