SID-00757: After Upgrade/Move Existing Users Can't See Webs

Status: Answered Answered TWiki version: 4.3.1 Perl version: v5.8.4
Category: CategoryAccessControl Server OS: Debian GNU/Linux 3.1, kernel 2.4.27-2-386 Last update: 14 years ago

We are trying to move our Twiki from a windows install. I followed the instructions at TWikiUpgradeGuide. However, existing users that were moved over are able to login, but they are not able to see any webs they previously had access to via Access Control.

I have verified the users are assigned to the correct group (InternalGroup). If I create a new user and assign to InternalGroup, they are able to see all the webs that InternalGroup has access to.

There is something missing with the users I moved over. I have searched the site and only came up with a few possibilities:

  • I verified that Set NOSEARCHALL = (is blank)
  • And that real bullets (three spaces then astrict space then Set command) for Set ALLOWWEBVIEW, etc.

I copied the .htpasswd to the new /data directory. New users that I add are appended to .htpasswd, and again existing users are able to login.

Any advice at this point would be welcomed.

Thank you, Daryl

Discussion and Answer

Did you move over also Main.TWikiUsers? The latest TWiki is picky, users need to be listed in that topic for certain actions.

Yes, I moved TWikiUsers in the /home/httpd/twiki/data/main/TWikiUsers.txt. I also see that they new users I created are in the TWikiUsers.txt as well as the existing users.

Any ideas?

What kind of error message do you get? Check the groups and the access control in WebPreferences of the webs users can't see.

-- PeterThoeny - 2010-02-22

No error messages. The existing users just can't see the access controlled webs.

I've verified that the users still belong to the group that has access to the webs, and the group is listed on the web's access control list.

When I add a new user to that group, they can see the webs, but not an existing user.

I am seing the same issue upgrading from 4.1 to 5.02. With a twist though, as I am using the LdapContrib extension for authenticating users. So in the new set up the authenticated user cannot see the webs except for Main, Sandbox, SiteMap and Twiki only the TwikiAdmin can get full access. I have compared the old system, and everything that needs to be moved has been moved as well as setting the correct file permissions. Server OS is Debian Lenny.

Have anybody found a solution to this issue?
