SID-00836: How can I import "pub" from an earlier installation?

Status: Answered Answered TWiki version: 4.3.2 Perl version: 5.8.8-27
Category: CategoryDeployment Server OS: RedHat Enterprise 5 Last update: 14 years ago

I have the contents of a previous TWiki installation (not sure what version - circa 2007-08) and would like to import it into a new instance (v. 4.3.2) I've just installed.

Unfortunately, all I have is the contents of the "pub" directory from the old installation, consisting of the following subdirectories: _default Main Sandbox Trash TWiki _work_areas.

If I simply try to replace the pub directory in the new instance with the old pub directory, the new instance doesn't show any of the original topics.

Is there any reasonable way to import this data? Any suggestions gladly accepted!

Discussion and Answer

Copy twiki/data/SomeWeb and twiki/pub/SomeWeb always as a pair. Never copy system webs such as _default, TWiki. Manual merge is needed for Main web.

But if I don't have twiki/data/SomeWeb? Is there any way of extracting/importing using pub alone?

In your list of pub directories, the only one with real content is probably pub/Main. If you lost the data/Main there is no direct way to get at the attachments. As a workaround, create a page in TWiki, such as OldAttachments in the Main web, create a pub/Main/OldAttachments directory owned by webserver user, and move all files below your old pub/Main/*/* to that directory. Now the files are accessible via direct url access, such as .../pub/Main/OldAttachment/TopSecret.ppt. Optionally set the experimental {AutoAttachPubFiles} configure setting to auto-attach the files.

Thank you very much!! {AutoAttachPubFiles} did the trick.

TWiki has now an easy point & click solution to upgrade TWiki with the help of the BackupRestorePlugin.
