SID-00897: Copyright Notice In The Middle Of Page

Status: Unanswered Unanswered TWiki version: 4.0.2 Perl version: unknown
Category: CategoryRendering Server OS: unknown, probably unix Last update: 15 years ago

I'm running an old version of TWiki from 2006, an upgrade isn't easy to get done due to internal policies, server admin availability, etc. Regardless this wasn't a problem for years until now.

The copyright notice which is supposed to be at the bottom of the page is now showing up in the middle of the page on top of the content making it difficult to read the content. In fact on the page that displays the version installed the copyright notice happens to cover that exact line and I can't see what version I'm running.

I haven't used the wiki in awhile since the company created a corporate wide wiki which replaced mine. However nothing has changed from the last time I used it, so I don't understand why this is suddenly a problem. Below is the content from the TWikiPreferences page:

   * Copyright notice:
      * Set WEBCOPYRIGHT = <span class="twikiRight"> <a href="http://twiki.org/"><img src="%PUBURLPATH%/%TWIKIWEB%/TWikiLogos/T-logo-80x15.gif" alt="This site is powered by the TWiki collaboration platform" width="80" height="15" title="This site is powered by the TWiki collaboration platform" border="0" /></a></span>%MAKETEXT{"%RED%Private/Proprietary Level I: WARNING Portions of our online documents contain technical information which is export controlled and may not be released outside of the US without an export license. Discussion and Answer

If I understand correctly, this issue happens to appear on your existing old 4.0.2 installation. What changes did you make recently? Any skin changes? Check also if the WEBCOPYRIGHT is overloaded at the local site level in your Main.TWikiPreferences.

Not sure why the message appears in the middle of the page. Possibly due to unmached div tags? To troubleshoot, define a bare-bone WEBCOPYRIGHT in your Main.TWikiPreferences. Then access a TWiki page. Add ?skin=pattern to test with the default skin.

I haven't made any changes to any preferences files or other administrative pages other than groups in probably three years. My company created the corporate wide wiki two years ago and asked me to stop using this one. The only reason I'm using it now is that a small group has a need for a read/write restricted web which the corporate wiki doesn't offer. However there has been some occasional use of this wiki in the past two years and it didn't have any problems until this time.

No skin changes, we've always used the default skin. The WEBCOPYRIGHT setting is only in the TWikiPreferences file, no where else, so it should be site-wide. The custom copyright setting was created when I first installed the wiki in 2006 and was never touched after that. The copyright message currently shows up at various heights of pages in all webs. Oddly enough the copyright doesn't show up on every single page just most of them.

Just an FYI, I am currently making changes to create a new restricted web, new group, and editing webpreferences for both TWiki and the new web. I'm having difficulties with that too, the people listed in the new group can't see the new web. However these changes were being made after discovering the copyright problem.

I went to an older revision to copy the original default copyright notice and still have the same problem even with the default. So it doesn't seem to be a problem with unmatched tags anywhere. Still scratching my head on this one.
