SID-01484: Latest and best option to search within attachments?

Hello

Requirement: Search text inside of MS Office and PDF file attachments like doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, pdf

Background research: I know there had been many plugins/add-ons made for this requirement. I havnt yet explored SearchEngineKinoSearchAddOn though.

Question: What is the best and the latest version of such a plugin that can fulfill the requirements till date? I should be able to search in the regular search text box and it should actually also search into the attachments apart from my twiki content.

Wanted to add one more point here - I need to be able to search inside Japanese content also. ie the plugin/add-on should support UTF-8 or Shift-JIS encoded document attachments also.

Use case: Enter Japanese text to search in the 'regular twiki search box'

Expected result: The corresponding Japanese text should be searched both from twiki content as well as the attachments and list them accordingly in the search result.

The SearchEngineKinoSearchAddOn is the most common one used to search inside attachments. It has not been updated for a while though, it needs some TLC. Not sure about multi-byte support. You could also look into commercial search engine such as Google Search Appliance.
