Shouldn't
MsOfficeAttachmentsAsHTMLPlugin at least allow to see the content of bloody office attachments? One doesn't simply edit office documents directly in a Wiki, but there's the
WebDAVPlugin which should allow editing office attachment with office applications without the need to down- and upload them again

Yes, the
WebDAVPlugin is designed for editing without a download / update / upload session. However, it is a bit outdated and needs some TLC to bring it up the the latest Apache release.
