SID-02055: indexed search with attachments?
What is the current approach to searching content including attachments? I'd like to upgrade an old 4.x installation, but have not been able to make
SearchEngineKinoSearchPlugin work on newer versions and the site is not useful without a content search. Is something better available now?

Discussion and Answer
The
SearchEngineKinoSearchAddOn is outdated, it needs some TLC to bring it up to the latest TWiki. Nobody has come forward yet to sponsor this work. You can hire one of the
TWikiConsultants if this functionality is critical to you.

That seems unlikely at this point. Can't you just put back the interfaces that you removed so the old plugin will work?

Not that easy. A few versions back, TWiki changed the interface on how standalone CGI scripts interact with TWiki. The
SearchEngineKinoSearchAddOn has a kinosearch script that needs to be fixed. If you are a developer I invite you to
get involved, enhance the attachment search, and contribute the changes back to the TWiki community.

My real goal is to move an old twiki installation on
CentOS5 to a
CentOS7 system to extend its life. I thought I'd update twiki as a matter of course, but that's not reasonable without maintaining the ability to search (and I'm shocked that anyone else would consider it, including yourself) It looks like a matter of building the back-rev kinosearch package on
CentOS7 and fixing an assortment of syntax errors in twiki code (mostly qw's needing parens in the configure part) to just keep the old 4.x running with perl 5.16. Are there any test suites to do syntax checks over the bulk of the code to avoid other surprises with the newer perl?

You could run the unit tests, but you need a SVN checkout. See
TestCasesTutorial.
