Question

When I try to search in a web where I restricted Web view by adding some users to the ALLOWWEBVIEW variable in the WebPreferences topic, I cannot search the web any more, if I start the search inside the web. Starting the search from other webs, however, the search works even for the view restricted web! If I do not specify any users at the ALLOWWEBVIEW variable, the search works again.

Any ideas, what could be the problem?

I am experiencing the identical problem as described above. This is the last hurdle (not that there have been many hurdles) to cross before we turn this loose in our Directorate. Any help sure would be appreciated.

Answer

Not sure why you can't search the current web if Set ALLOWWEBVIEW is enabled. What kind of error message do you get?

In regards to starting the search from other webs and finding topics even for the view restricted web: You need to restict search with the Set NOSEARCHALL = on web preferences variable.

Actually, there is no error message. By not working, I (we) mean that the search results returned indicate 0 items found for each web searched. So yes, the search works, but returns invalid results.

Thanks for taking a look at this.

Can you see that particular web normally? Whenever I put in a ALLOWWEBVIEW, it works too well -> no one can get in, not even the person(s)/group(s) mentioned on the list, nor anything listed in the $superAdminGroup variable.

Just in case this is of any help. I had the same problem as GaborNagypal (initial question of this topic) when I hadn't enabled the $doRememberRemoteUser flag in lib/TWiki.cfg as in the instructions (in section "Selective Unrestricted Web Access " of Twiki Access Control).

Yep, got this behavior too. Problem is that in view mode you are not identified. I chnaged the bin/.htpasswd to require valid user for search, but then, surprise, anybody can search the protected web and find results...
