Question

I have a configuration of a series of hierarchical webs, the last of each branch is a subweb I want to mark as "private" and invisible to anyone not in the group matched to its parent. I read the documentation on AccessControl and set in the WebPrefrences for the private web to ALLOWWEBVIEW to only specified group, but the settings did not take nor did they show up on the SitePermissions page. I did find the answer in the very well pursued question here:

http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Support/SubWebsAndPermissions

which indicates that the FINAL permissions need to be set for every parent web to allow setting any web permissions.

Now, since this isn't documented and, honestly, pretty counterintuitive, especially since even the FINAL comment line does not mention subwebs, is this the way its supposed to perform? Or is there something else that would allow subwebs to have specific web permissions that I'm missing?

Thanks for your help.
