Question

Hi, I like twiki from what I've seen of it and would like to have a group site for my friends. It doesn't appear that it is good to put one on the groups page of the twiki.org site. Are there any wiki farms that use twiki? Or can I put up a site here.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease01Feb2003
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS:
Web server:
Perl version:
Client OS:
Web Browser:

Answer

I don't know of any TWiki-based Wiki:WikiFarms, but you could just try TWikiOnWebHostingSites - I use Dreamhost, which makes it quite easy to get up and running (see DreamhostSetupNotes). Having your own TWiki involves a bit more work but is also much more configurable than having a web or a site within someone else's installation.

Note also that TWiki is very light on server ressources and bandwidth, so you can run one at home on an ADSL line is some of you have it. I use a wiki for this purpose (private use for a group of friends) and it works nicely. Due to ADSL upload limitations, you cannot use lots of images or attachements, but it does the job.

Also, for potential admins of TWiki Farms, I recommend SpeedyCGI

For German schools we (University of Koblenz) offer free TWiki webs on our CoLearn platform.
