Question

User doesn't show up when added.

First some background:

  • I am trying to get a new installation running
  • I managed to hack my way through a Windows installation with the September release and finally got it up
  • Then v4.0.1 came out so I ran that with the Upgrade script which broke a lot of stuff
  • Now I am back to a semi-functional state with many issues

I am working towards authentication based on an intranet login. The first user I created however (for myself) seems to work. I can log in and then my name shows up in the upper left. At first that didn't work and apache was giving me the .htpasswd popup, but now I think it's gone (hopefully)--it seemed to work the last time. But my name doesn't show up in the User list. If I reset my password, that works. If I change my password, that also works. If I try to add an identical user, that fails, because it knows not to do that. But my name doesn't show up on the User list.

Environment

Server OS: WinXP SP 1
Web server: Apache 1.3.34
Perl version: 5.8.7-5

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

This same behavior also shows up using Groups... the TWikiGroups page will not show a group I have created. If I try and add the group again it gives an error (which is appropriate--it shouldn't be able to add an identical group). If I go directly to the groupname as a wiki word, it has it's own page. But it just doesn't show up in the group list with the users registered to that group.

Have you tried to change any topic in your TWiki, maybe it's a rights problem with the files in the webs. It seems that TWiki cannot add your user to the Userlist. Did you try accessing your homepage under Main/username ?

Hope this helps a bit.

Yes, I can access Main.JoshuaJohnston just fine.

As you pointed out, I am also guessing it is possibly a rights/ownership issue. I have had many many problems trying to get things right in that regard, and am under the general impression that some of the problems I'm having might still be traced back to that.

Right now I can pull up any page that has been previously created, even if it doesn't show up on one of the lists. I can also edit any page, but when I try and save them the perl script throws an exception and then hangs. See topic OopsHangs.

I have been trying to build a definitive list of file permissions/ownership for the twiki installation directory and subdirectories... I'm hoping if I can come up with a list that that should help me. The WindowsInstallCookbook got me a lot of the way there but I have still had a lot of issues.

This problem has been resolved as the result of RCS problems and using RcsLite. See topic: OopsHangs
