Question

Due to the nature of our work (lots of documentation with identical names) we use new webs for both Products and Projects. This leads to a LOT of webs, and thus a LOT of WebLeftBars that I have to edit.

Is there any way to "include" a WebLeftBar from another web? ie: is there a way I can edit the menu in one web and have it be replicated across different webs?

Any help would be great! Thanks!

ps. The sooner I can search in WebLeftBars the better! My hands are numb from hardcoding in links big grin

Environment

Server OS: RedHat

Answer

Check out the TWikiVariables BASETOPIC & BASEWEB and use them in the search within your WebLeftBarTemplate, then you may simply INCLUDE that template topic in your individual webs.

I just noticed that something is wrong with the rendering of dates on twiki.org cause the datestamp for my editing reads:

                    Support.UsingAnotherWebsWebLeftBar r1.2 - 1117691249 GMT - FranzJosefSilli
instead of using todays date/time --> someone did change something, Sven! wink

Jeff: In the WebLeftBar of each web simply %INCLUDE{Main.GenericWebLeftBar}% (assuming that you create a generic sidebar in the Main web.)

Franz: FYI, that was a temporary issue while using the cache add-on on the temporary server.

Did find that out by myself while following the discussions on TWikiIRC. Great to see twiki.org back to 'normal' behaviour. Guess we could delete my comments from here now.
