Question

After using TWiki as a team collaboration tool (using some htmlform and comment-based apps) for a while now, the group wants to give LiveLink the boot and switch to TWiki entirely. The only problem I have with that is the support for storing files in LiveLink... I wouldn't know how to do (or fake) something similar.

Ideally, I could just use the file server for storing documents, but other options are just as welcome.

I'm sure I'm not the first asking this question, but I couldn;t find any relevant material using WebSearch.

TIA!

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x00x02
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: RH9
Web server: Apache 2.052
Perl version: 5.8.5
Client OS: winxp
Web Browser: ie6
Categories: Missing functionality

WebDAVPlugin? Nah, I haven't ever used LiveLink, so I have no idea what you mean by "support for storing files in LiveLink" - I'm just guessing / adding my 2 cent smile

WebDAV doesn't work on Apache 2, unfortunately. LiveLink is just a web-based file storage facility, which pretends to be able to be a collaboration tool by offering horrible task management and discussion tools.

So what I'm looking for is something that allows users to easily store files in a central place (with version control etc) preferably similar to Windows Explorer.

Actually, the stuff described in HelpUpgradingCustomizedTwiki really sounds like what I need... If only a few topics could be configures with this functionality that would be perfect!

You could consider using sharepoint for the purpose. It comes with a Windows 2003 Server install per default, and supports versioning.

Enable versioning on the sharepoint web place and use standard CIFS (samba / file:) links referring to it, not the "standard" http links you see in the browser.

Similar functionality is followed up in AutomaticAttachments and HierarchicalAttachmentFolders.
