Question
I am a newbie to TWiki and I have just installed it on my Mac laptop. As a newbie, I am playing with lots of stuff and in that playing I installed the
NatSkin, but in the
NatSkinBrower I am seeing the variable names rather then the data. I'm pretty sure this problem is cause by a permission misconfuration, but I am stuck on where to start looking. All the files are owned by the CGI user (www) and should be readable/writible where needed. If anyone has an idea I would really appreciate the help. Thanks -- Sue

Answer
If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.
Have you installed the other things
NatSkin needs? It sounds like you've just installed the skin itself. It mentions near the bottom of the skin page (
Plugin Info heading) that it needs
NatSkinPlugin (as a dependency). Note that this plugin also has dependencies (see
Other Dependencies near the bottom), but you shouldn't need all of them. If you've got TWiki 4.0 ("Dakar", say yes

), then you don't need
DakarContrib ('cos it's Dakar already) or
SpreadSheetPlugin ('cos that comes standard off the showroom floor). Nat Skin is also helped by having the optional
RedDotPlugin which is kind of cool.

The
NatSkinPlugin disables itself if the skin is not set to
nat.
Activate the skin and its plugin by adding
?skin=nat to the url or by setting
* Set SKIN = nat
in a topic, the
WebPreferences or the
TWikiPreferences.

Hi.. Thanks for the ideas, I do have the
NatSkinPlugin and
RedDotPlugin, but as you mentioned not the others as I am using 4.0. I have tried setting ?skin=nat, but I just get:
%IFSKINSTATETHEN{buttons="on"}% %FISKINSTATE%
%IFSKINSTATETHEN{sidebar="left|off"}%
TWiki·TWiki·NatSkinStyleBrowser
...discover TWiki details, and how to start your own site.
%IFSKINSTATETHEN{searchbox="top"}%
%$nopTMPL:P{"searchbox"}%
%FISKINSTATE%
%NATLOGON% | Print
%USERACTIONS%
%$nopWEBCOMPONENT{"WebButtons"}%
%IFSKINSTATETHEN{sidebar="left"}% %FISKINSTATE% %IFSKINSTATETHEN{sidebar="right"}% %FISKINSTATE% %FISKINSTATE%
[...]
Any other ideas?
Thanks -- Sue

Maybe you just didn't enable the
NatSkinPlugin using
http://your.site/...bin/configure in
the Plugins section.

I think that fixed it, or rather it did fix it, but I did have those both clicked enabled, and they were viewable as installed plugins, but I clicked them off then on again and now life is good.
Thanks

I spoke too soon. The Natskin is working about 90% or so, but the sidebar and the title bar are still not running as expected. Here is a quick snip from the sidebar:
Trash.Main
%FORMATLIST{"IntlBTR Main TWiki" exclude="Trash.Main|TWiki|Trash.Sandbox|User|TestCases|Trash" split=" " separator="$n" format="
$percntWEBLINK{\"$1\"}$percnt
"}%
I have double checked the permissions on all the nat files and they are owned by 'www' (the web user on my system).
Here are my installed plugins (in load order):
SpreadSheetPlugin
CommentPlugin
EditTablePlugin
InterwikiPlugin
NatSkinPlugin
PreferencesPlugin
RedDotPlugin
RenderListPlugin
SlideShowPlugin
SmiliesPlugin
TablePlugin
WysiwygPlugin
They all run without listing any errors.

The
FilterPlugin is missing.

You rock! That fixed that problem. I am seeing some %IFDEGINEDTHEN... in my browser heading, so I did also need to install your ifdefined plugin. Thanks -- Sue
