Question

A variety of problems came up when I installed NatSkin. (Yes, NatSkin works and I installed NatSkinPlugin and all dependencies.)

TWiki worked perfectly before with Pattern skin, with none of these problems. I activated NatSkin exactly as directed in NatSkinPlugin by editing TwikiPreferences and changing the skin variable to 'nat'. The skin looks fine, but these problems came up:

1. Search no longer works. When I type anything in Search, it responds with a "500 Internal Server Error" page stating "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request." and telling me to contact my admin, which is me. It worked fine before.

2. I am now locked out of editing preferences. TwikiPreferences has the Edit, Attach, and Move links inactive. The page now says (didn't use to), "Note: This topic should be regarded as read-only, so that upgrades can safely overwrite it without risk to your customizations. Preference settings local to your site should be set in TWikiPreferences."

When I go to TwikiPreferences, the Edit, Attach, and Move links are inactive. The only thing on the page is FINALPREFERENCES with an edit button (and a bunch of values), but I can only edit that parameter. I can't add anything.

I figured it must be an access control problem. Under TwikiAccessControl and SitePreferences it lists the TwikiAdminGroup for Allow under Change and Rename for Twiki only, not Main which is blank.

And, of course, I can't edit these pages either. So I can't change the permissions.

Right now I can't seem to even switch back to the Pattern skin. I'm logged in as admin, but I can't edit anything I need to edit.

Thanks for any help in getting out of this.

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

Workaround if you lock yourself out: On the shell level, edit the page.txt file directly. This will circumvent the history tracking, so it is recommended to edit & save the same page using the browser once you fixed the page at the shell level. In your case, edit twiki/data/Main/TWikiPreferences.txt (then re-edit that page the browser.)

The NatSkin has a big laundry list of dependencies. You might want to look into a different skin, such as the TWikiNetSkin.
