Question
Looking at the page
http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki04/TWikiUpgradeGuide
, copying over the TWiki directory for pubs and data will replace the T4 documents with the previous version (this doesn't seem good).
Also, can the Main web be freely copied over?
Thanks.

Answer
I know, the upgrade guide could go into more details. I added a note accordingly in
TWikiUpgradeGuide.
I typically upgrade into a separate TWiki web (and reflect that temporarily in the %TWIKIWEB%), so that I can test the new version while the old version is used in production. Then I can switch over the installation in an instant without any downtime.
Things to watch out on topic upgrade:
- TWiki web:
- Some topics in the TWiki web need to be retained, such as non-default Plugins.
- Some setting in Plugin topics need to be retained.
- Main web:
- Topics new topics in the distribution can be copied over into the Main web
- For all webs:
- Copy new topics: WebAtom
- Manually merge: WebLeftBar, WebNotify, WebRss
