Folding Test Page 1 on Foswiki

On Foswiki: Folding Test Page 1 on Foswik

Note: On Foswiki I had to create this page in the Sandbox web which means it will probably get deleted, so copying it back here to preserve the results.

Note: This page was originally created on twiki.org -- the observations and such (a bug) currently are based on the behavior there. I've moved it here to see if the behavior is any different in Foswiki.

Update: I haven't tested all the behavior on Foswiki (specifically, for example, the possible interaction of the "remember" cookies between two pages with identical content), but the bug "Heading in twisty does not show up in TOC" seems to also exist here.

And there is no change in the behavior for a list item (on Foswiki).

And there is another bug here -- probably can't describe accurately, but the list of 3 items to get the heading into the TOC keeps getting reformatted unacceptably. Oops: Never mind, I found the way to get directly to the Raw editor -- under "More" choose "Edit wiki markup", but (confusing) discussion left here for what it might be worth.) I somewhat think it is because to get to the raw edit in Foswiki I (apparently) have to start with the WYSIWYG editor, then switch to the raw editor, and I think that causes the problem. I don't think I'll bother to reformat the list again (for the 3rd or 4th time). (The problem was caused because the < entity (& lt;) was changed in the WYSIWYG editor to a < before going to the raw editor (chaos ensued). I suspect the same problem would occur on TWiki if I went to the WYSIWYG editor first -- a trap for the unwary.)

Update: The above problem does not occur on TWiki.

Bug: Heading in twisty does not show up in TOC.

I tried 3 ways to get it into the TOC:

  • prefix="<h2>" without trailing !!
  • prefix="---++ " without trailing !!
  • No prefix, added ---++ to link (i.e."---++ A Level 2 Heading (#2) in a twisty")

Justification / discussion: The fact that the : Twisty Headers says to add the !! to keep the heading out of the TOC implies that without the !! it should go into the TOC, and such was the intention of the authors of the TWistyPlugin.

I could argue (with myself) that if I make all the headings collapsible and initially collapsed, the page itself will look like a TOC, and it will, sort of, but having both the TOC and the collapsed headings is (to me) more useful.

Folding a list item

Did a little experimenting -- two problems atm:

  1. I haven't found a way to make the item appear as a list item (that is, indented with a bullet in front of it). I tried putting the " * " as a prefix (prefix=) and I tried putting it as the first characters of the link,
  2. I envisioned the first line of a list item as being of variable length to match the current width of the TWiki window, but it looks like it would have to be a fixed length based on where I manual divide the item between the link and the remaining content within the twisty.
  3. (I can't count) I'd also like to be able to have multiple or continuation paragraphs of a list item, indented the same as the list item to which it belongs (indented to where the text starts, not where the bullet or number is).

I don't think I'll make much progress here -- I may let things sit and try to cogitate some.
