Hi, Joe!
This page is just to serve as a way for Joe and I to communicate until he gets his email working reliably.
I forgot to tell him that he'll have to
register (and then log in) to write anything here, of course, he can call me.
Saving this page quickly for now, just to test that link.
Wow, that page is cluttered and ugly right now--I hope that's somewhat temporary in preparation for the upcoming Dakar release.
Anyway, here are some notes from my offline TWiki-like thing (my askSam/TWiki hybrid clone) about kde file associations:
kde file associations
Lots to learn, start with running kcontrol. Look at ~/.kde/share/config/profilerc, and look for something similar (or related to) magic in /etc/kde.
Google search on [kde magic mime file types]

I learned a little bit more. I suggest you read (or skim)
Making KDE work: Part 1
.
It is based on kde pre-version 1, but it sounds like it still applies. I'm going to look at a few things it mentions to see if they still exist. Well, OK, I'm not so sure. But, I do see these files which look somewhat relevant--maybe pick one of these that looks interesting and then Google on
that name:
/etc/mime-magic
/etc/mime-magic.dat (???)
/etc/kde/magic/
If I get some time, I may do some googling as well.
