Incidently I just found that
FoxWiki: uses a preceding ? to introduce links to a topic named with a
SingletonWikiWord. Not all simple though, cause it uses ! to point to another web and it calls other webs namespaces.
Looks like we are going to end up with a
BabelOfWikis just in terms of syntax. Humph - I'm going to go and read the
WikiWay, maybe that says something about it!

I think we already have a
BabelOfWikis -- see, for example,
Wiki:WikiEngineReviewTextFormattingTest
and
Wiki:WikiEngineReview
(which has lost a few links).

Indeed - it would be good if the Wikizens of various
WikiWikiClones got together and agreed on some standards, but it's probably too late for that... Maybe the best that can be done is an interchange format, perhaps an
XML language to and from which the various
WikiWikiClones can export and import their pages, to ease migrations and interoperability.

Indeed, it is a Babel of Wikis. This does not matter so much in regards to the
TWikiMission.
If there is a need, a plugin could be created that serves the TWiki topic content in what ever
WikiXmlStandard there might be in the future.

Well, if there was a high horse to get on, this is one worth getting on. Having differences in how the content is handled is fine, having differences in the way the wikis address each other is madness.
Bother,
WardCunningham must have talked about this somewhere. (Time to order the
WikiWay from the UK I guess).

See
RenderOnceReadMostly please! I think this is more of a perceived problem then a real one.

I'm not sure what the problem is really with a 'Babel' of Wikis - might be less pejorative to call it a Cambrian Explosion

Few people use a lot of different Wikis, and the basic syntax is easily learnt. Sites that migrate from one Wiki to another can develop conversion tools quite easily, e.g. the Dolphin to TWiki tool in
Plugins.WebHome - over time, these may evolve into a common interchange format.
It is already possible to reference other Wikis in a consistent format, mostly, see
MeatBall:InterWiki
and
InterWikis.
