The Macintosh operating system - the
MacOS X version is based on an
OpenSource Unix (
FreeBSD on top of a Mach microkernel if you're a geek

), which makes it a good server for TWiki sites. Earlier versions (up to
MacOS 9.x) are non-Unix based but can run Perl.

Using MacOS built-in spellcheck in TWiki
While researching options for spellchecking within TWiki text boxes, I discovered that
MacOS has this capability already built in! When you're editing a topic, simply control-click anywhere in the test box and then select the "Spelling" submenu. There's even an option to "check spelling as you type" which underlines suspect words as you type! Very cool!.

Some interesting issues with the way
MacOS does Unicode filenames, found a while ago - see
MacOSXFilesystemEncodingWithI18N. This could affect TWiki sites using
I18N where
MacOS is used as client or server.
