AbiWord is an MSDI (Multiple Single Document Interface) application (see
AbiWordFaqMdiSdiMsdi). When the last open document is closed, the default behavior is to leave
AbiWord open with an empty window (gray background).
You can change this behavior by setting the CloseOnLastDoc parameter in the file AbiWord.Profile.
If you want
AbiWord to close when the last file is closed, set
CloseOnLastDoc="1".
If you want
AbiWord to remain open when the last file is closed, set
CloseOnLastDoc="0".
There is a little more to it than that -- you may have to create a custom scheme and so forth. I will attach my AbiWord.Profile as an example, and may expand these instructions later (or someone else might).
AbiWord.Profile is typically stored in:
- C:\Windows\AbiSuite in Windows
- <later> in Linux

See
MyRantings -- nothing to rant about here -- Dom Lachowicz acceded to the desires of users to implement this feature contrary to his own (and most of the developer's) wishes. Thanks Dom!!
