THE ADDRESS BAR
The
address toolbar shows the URL (uniform resource locator) address of the web page you are browsing.
The parts of the address are similar to the parts of a mailing address. Each individual part tells you some information about the web address just like the name, street address, city, state and zip tells you information for a mailing address on an envelope.
- "HTTP://" is the standard protocol to tell your computer you will be viewing a web page.
- The "WWW" represent world wide web server.
- The "Registered Domain Name" similar to a person's name in a mailing address.
- The Top Level Domain come next and tell what type of page you are viewing. Here are some examples:
.gov - Government agencies
.edu - Educational institutions
.org - Organizations (nonprofit)
.mil - Military
.com - commercial business
.net - Network organizations
.ca - Canada
.th - Thailand
- Then may come several words separated by slashes. These are the folder locations of the web pages for the web site you are viewing in your browser.
There is also a drop down arrows at the end of the address bar. When you click on this drop down arrow, you get a list of recently visited web pages. Instead of clicking the back button several times, you can just click on the page you want and return there immediately.
