In October 2000, Terra Lycos was born combining Terra Networks, S.A., a global Internet company and the leading provider of Internet access and interactive content and services to the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world and Lycos, Inc., the Internet's leading multi-brand network, a trademark of Carnagie University.

Terra Lycos' mission statement is to be the most visited online destination in the world.

Terra Lycos has more than 140 sites in 41 countries through its network of Web sites as well as through joint venture partnerships. The new Terra Lycos is one of the most popular Internet networks in the U.S., Canada Europe and Asia and is the leading portal to Spanish and Portuguese-speaking markets.

There are also areas to click to an all Spanish web page, how to personalize your Terra Lycos home page, and advance search options. You will see some flashing banners, and in addition to the above listings, there is an in music section, an in special events section and an in fox sports section.

You also have to pay an annual fee to be able to submit your website to Terra Lycos. I could not find how many pages are indexed on this site. I did find that this site does however link to other search engines. Terra Lycos does offer free standard e-mail service and a premium e-mail plus service for a fee.

According to New York-based Internet research firm Jupiter Media Metrix, Terra Lycos was the fourth most popular Web media property in April.
