I probably need a few pages to cover related topics, like:

Ignoring things that I might say in those topics, the reason I often don't submit bug reports to KDE is that I am usually "testing" products that are one or several steps behind their current release.

I am not "proud" of not submitting the bugs, and would prefer to do so. (In "submitting bugs" I include the step of searching the bug database to see if the bug has already been submitted.)

This is because I (currently) tend to install new releases of software only when I install a new or updated Linux distribution. (I may need a new page, WhyIDontUpgradeLinuxSoftware -- generally it has to do with a lack of confidence that it will work the first time, everytime, or that it will be a lot of trouble, what with gathering dependencies, possibly adjusting permissions, finding the right package for my distro, etc., etc., etc.).

Usually when I go to KDE to submit a bug, I eventually am told they are not interested in bug reports for the version of the software that I am using. This happened most recently just a few days ago -- I installed Mandrake 8.2 around Jun 7, 2002, and went to report a bug in konqueror 2.2.2 -- the "wizard" in the kde bug reporting system said they were not interested in any bug reports before konqueror 3.0. (Hmmm, do I remember that right? Not positive, but I'm pretty sure I did not submit the bug, because of that. What was the bug -- oh, it was the business of lines in textareas (like the TWiki edit window) wrapping at around column 123 and not at the width of the window (and no scrollbar) -- see Konqueror222.
