msec is the Mandrake SECurity application. Haven't found out very much about it, so here are some links and notes.

- Logging on tty12: in msec levels 3 and above, logging is enabled on tty12.
- To change the msec security level, type, for example,
msec 3 at a command prompt (as root??).
- (OT): An alternate way to redirect all syslog messages to /dev/tty12 is to add the line `*.* /dev/tty12` to the end of /etc/syslog.conf file.
- See /etc/security/limits.conf (I suspect this comes from msec) -- there are various limits in this file including a limit on the size of a (ftp'd ?) file. In fact, review the entire /etc/security directory -- probably other potential sources of trouble there.
