Most of the motherboards I buy have integrated on board video, usually based on SiS chipsets. I (and others) have some difficulties using SiS chipsets, so I'm starting this page to collect helpful resources or notes.

• (rhk) Linux and SiS VGA chipsets - The Project -- starts out like this and seems to get better (might be focused primarily on laptops, I've only "skimmed" parts of it so far) (PS: I think this guy (the author of this page -- thomas@winischhoferPLEASENOSPAM.net) might be the developer of the SiS drivers for Linux.):

Ignoring very old chips, there are currently four groups of SiS VGA chips:

• The old series (5597/5598, 6326, 530),
• the 300 series (300, 540, 630, 730),
• the 310 series (315/E/H/PRO, 550, 650, M650, 740), and
• the Xabre series (330; 328, 332, 334, 336, 320, 340, 360).

The devices within these groups are (more or less) compatible to each other.
