Implementing this would be a stretch, but it would be nice if i could copy a URL like
http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/PasteTWikiStyleLinksFromURLs
and, when I paste it in TWiki automatically have it formatted like a "real TWiki link", i.e.,
PasteTWikiStyleLinksFromURLs or, in a different web,
Codev.PasteTWikiStyleLinksFromURLs.
And, while I'm stretching, it would be nice if it recognized URLs on the
InterWiki list (e.g.,
http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiSite
) and pasted it as
C2:WikiSite
.
I recognize several things:
- It's not often needed -- if I cut and paste from my browser's address bar, I can just select the appropriate portion of the address and do the minor reformatting required. One place it becomes useful is if you use your browser's "Copy Link Location" feature on, for example, the results of a search.
- This would probably be very difficult to implement (IMHO) in "raw" TWiki. It might be a feature in one of the TWikiEditors being discussed.
- For myself, probably the quickest way for me to see such a feature is when I start using a browser that calls an external editor, and I implement a macro (in something like Nedit) to do this.
But, despite the difficulties, it would be nice to have. (I am not suggesting that anyone spend any time implementing such a thing, especially at this point -- I just like to record potential improvements (sometimes when I think of them) -- making a cost / benefit analysis is a future step, and will change depending on the current state of technology.
