Notes

• Bind on MandrakeFreq72 is version 8.2.3
• Documentation is in /usr/share/doc/bind-8.2.3, especially see:
  • misc/FAQ.1of2 and misc/FAQ.2of2
• Look for the "Configuration File Guide" (which I haven't found so far)

Useful Commands

• nslookup
• dnsquery
• named -v
• dnstracer -- "determines where a given Domain Name Server (DNS) gets its information from, and follows the chain of DNS servers back to the servers which know the data" (from Mandrake Cooker description)
• it would be nice to have a tool like one of the above which also checked the hosts file, although I suppose that's easy enough to do manually by viewing the hosts file and knowing the "resolution order" (which I think can be specified in at least two different places -- in one place it is called hostresorder.
