Filed a Mozilla bug on this (either 190716 or 190718 (both are mine, one is on the multiple instance issue (not being able to start multiple instances) and the other is on the manager issue).
Just to provide a little context, my problem is that I typically have in the range of 100 to 200 Mozilla windows and tabs open -- when any one of them crashes they all close.
See
MozillaManager, which includes (in the current rev, at least) more details on the bugs I submitted to Mozilla.
I should add the URL for the bug (or at least the Mozilla bugzilla) next time I come across it -- right now I'm just recording a few things from the konqueror browsers before rebooting because I just had another Mozilla crash. This time it occurred when I attempted to edit a TWiki page -- don't think there was anything special about that TWiki page (or editing, as I do that all the time) -- I think Mozilla just reached its limit and decided it was time to crash. (Mozilla 1.1 on Mandrake 9.0)
Aside: The bug I submitted got marked as a duplicate of some other bug (36810?), but when I read that bug it did not seem at all a duplicate, read to me as almost just the opposite. Reopened my bug and got a rather strong reply that (thankfully) was at least somewhat helpful -- turns out that:
- The bug my bug was marked a duplicate of is more like a dependency -- that bug must be resolved before my bug can be resolved (and, IIRC, I am not the first to ask for this feature, but it seems there is another set of people asking for some things that seem to be just the opposite).
- There is a way to create multiple (independent) instances of Mozilla by setting up different profiles -- there is a page in the Mozilla help about creating additional profiles.
