Darn -- I should have known / remembered that C++ used the term "virtual" -- just starting to collect some resources.
First attempt at defining virtual -- something that pretends to exist, and appears to exist, but whose functionality is actually implemented by some other (object?).
(I think the nuances thing would be useful, like I started in
immutable.
