There are quite a few plugin and addon topics that seem to have %USERNAME% embedded, presumably as a result of the NewAddOnTemplate being used without editing, e.g. TodaysVisitorsPluginDev. This is a bit confusing ...

While I think the template is supposed to have the variables instantiated when used, this is not happening, perhaps because of the advice in this web to not create the new topic, just copy the text.

Also, when doing a Go to a TestPlugin topic, I don't get the full template anyway - is there a special page for creating plugin/addon pages?

Can someone who knows how this is supposed to work take a look at this?

The correct place to create an Add-on, Plugin, Skin topic is to go to the package topic (AddOnPackage, PluginPackage, SkinPackage, respectively) and use the form to create the topic.

The current spec is that only certain variables get expanded at topic creation time as described in TWikiTemplates and ExpandVariablesInNewUserTemplate: DATE, WIKIUSERNAME, URLPARAM and NOP. We could change that, however for compatibility I do not favor that except for some safe variables. WIKINAME is one that should be added.
