Question

Due to increased Wiki Spam we no longer allow users to register themselves. They ask the admin, the admin fills out the form, then it's up to the user to authenticate as per usual.

I have added two users since this policy went into effect, one in late June, the other in early July. Neither wrote to aprise me of authentication problems. However, today I noticed neither is listed in the Users page, neither has a file in Main, and their RegistrationApprovals files are still in place.

Those Approvals are full of data, including the original activation codes. How can I run the files myself and activate these users? The orginal "paste the code into this space" page is long since closed and gone.

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

I'm giving up on this ne. The lack of response implies it's not possible frown

I found BulkRegistration. That works.

The holiday season requires more patience as usual when asking questions - sorry.

Data in the RegistrationApprovals indicate that you have the configuration setting {Register}{NeedVerification} set to a true value: This means that after you've filled the form, the user you registered should receive an email describing how to proceed (and the WIKIWEBMASTER should receive a Bcc of that mail). Maybe the users did not honour that email? Or maybe your email setup has problems and the mails never got out?

Anyway, there are "ways out":

  1. Uncheck the configuration item {Register}{NeedVerification} in bin/configure (in the "Security" section). After that, future registrations should go right through without dumping stuff in the RegistrationApprovals directory.
  2. To manually finish the pending registrations, you can yourself visit the URL (after inserting the correct yourxxxx data) http://yourhost/yourtwikipath/bin/register?action=verify;code=yourverificationcode
