Question
This is my first installation of TWiki and I am struggling. After a lot of changing settings I finally got the configure page to show by changing the {ScriptUrlPath} to
http://localhost/twiki/bin. But now when I try to create a new topic I get the following error.
During save of sandbox.TestFourteen an error was found by the version control system. Please notify your TWiki administrator.
Cannot open C:/twiki/data/sandbox/TestFourteen.txt,v for write: Invalid argument
Go back in your browser and save your changes locally.
I can't figure it out for the life of me. I searched through existing support documents and found one related issue but his fix actually made my configure page not show up. Should I just uninstall and try again? Any help is greatly appreciated.

it sounds like a permissions problem. Make sure that the webserver user can read and write all files in your installation.

The "Invalid argument" message is an indication that rcs is not understanding all arguments. Check the rcs settings in configure. I am not familiar with Windows setup, so I can't be more specific.
It migh be worth trying to install the virtual appliance,
TWikiVMDebianStable.

I have the exact same problem on Windows 2003 server - noticed when trying to add a group. I did set the permissions of c:\twiki so that Apache2 (the user which runs the apache2 service) can read and write anything under c:\twiki, but the problem still happens. Note: I am using the Perl version of
RCS (
RcsLite). I run Apache 2.0.55 and
ActiveState Perl 5.8.8. I also noticed that I do get 2 files in C:\twiki\data\Main despite the error message:
FooGroup.txt and
FooGroup.lease. However, if I go to the page to add a new group, my
FooGroup is not listed.

Just a wild guess: There could be an issue if one of the path (twiki/data, rcs command, or...) has spaces in it.

I had no spaces in either paths in 4.0.5 (c:\twiki and c:\bin for rcs). Interestingly enough, in 4.1.0 I m not getting this error. I was able to save a page. Maybe this issue was fixed?
