Question

Hi.

I'm trying to install Twiki and I was able to figure out all the problems along the way.

However, when I got to the point where I needed to run the "configure" script, I get this problem...

Configure pulls up and says:

Could not find existing configuration file C:\web\docs\olli\lib/LocalSite.cfg.

This may be because this is the first time you have run configure.

If so, please fill in the required paths in the General path settings section below and click 'Next' to save before returning to configure to complete configuration

Now that's all fine and dandy EXCEPT that there is no "General Path" settings "below". All I see below is "Environment variables (read only)" and there is nothing I can fill in in this section. There is also no "Next" button below that.

On a related note: if I do end up finding this General Path setting, what do I set it TO???

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x02x02
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: Windows Server 2003 SP 2
Web server: Apache 2.2
Perl version: Perl 5.10.0.1004
Client OS: Windows XP
Web Browser: Firefox
Categories: Installation

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

General path settings is actually the third section. After Environment variables, you are supposed to see CGI Setup (which is also read only).

So it's as if the bin/configure is dying before it generates those sections. Is there anything interesting in your Apache log?

I think all will become clear when you see that section: it has documentation embedded.

Thanks for the reply, Sean... I looked in my error logs and this is what I find:

configure: Insecure dependency in eval while running with -T switch at C:\\web\\docs\\olli\\lib/TWiki/Configure/Checker.pm line 196.

Any ideas?

I did a little searching and found out that the error message means I don't have CGI::Session... I'm new to perl so I don't know anything. I went to install it but I'm just confused, there are so many... for instance, which one of these do I need?

hmm nevermind, I found the ppm program included in activeperl. I ran it and it took me a while to figure out how to install it but I did. now it says CGI-Session 4.35 is installed. However, configure still doesn't show general path.

Also, ppm says install area is site (c:/perl/site/lib). There is also another area "perl" (C:/perl/lib) but there is a closed padlock next to it and it won't let me click on it.

What do I need to do to get configure to run?

Again, I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm very new to perl. This seems unnaturally difficult though...

The padlock may mean more pre-requisites are missing.

(Stealing from my answer at WindowsInstallationDeadEnd):

When I installed on Windows "by hand", I found I needed the following modules:
  • CGI::Session (was missing in TWiki install doc, but I got an error without it)
  • Digest::SHA1 (this one probably contains the DES code you need)
  • MIME::Base64
  • Net::SMTP
  • ... and more when I started adding plugins

However when I used the Windows installer (see info on Blog or Codev), it had all the required modules. I still needed to add more for plugins though.

So in summary:

  • Keep checking that Apache log. You may find that you need more modules.
  • Even better, the Windows installer can you give you a system that's up & running in a few minutes.

Hi Sean, the apache logs would be helpful if it actually told me WHAT modules I'm missing. Instead, it keeps saying the same thing (which means gibberish to me):

[Thu Sep 11 17:30:37 2008] configure: Insecure dependency in eval while running with -T switch at C:\\web\\docs\\olli\\lib/TWiki/Configure/Checker.pm line 196.

Is there a way of getting it to tell me exactly what I need? Is this really this hard for everyone else? Sometimes I wonder how so many people are running a program that is so hard to install. It's like it doesn't want me to install it or something! haha, sorry, just had to whine a little... I'm okay now, ready to fight again! smile

PS - what windows installer are you talking about?

I provided two links there ... "(see info on...".

Thanks Sean! This is very helpful. I'll try those installers on Monday!
