SID-01448: Update attachment with new filename shows both attachments

Example: a topic has test.txt as an attachment. If I click on "manage" in the "attachments" block and attach a new file ("Select a new local file to update attachment test.txt") which has a different name ("test1.txt"), then after the update both files are shown.
In earlier versions of TWiki, only the latest version was shown.
Is there a way to get the old behaviour back?

Discussion and Answer
This has been debated back on forth for a long time. There are arguments on both sides. See

,
UpdateAttachmentsDontWorkAsExpected,
AttachmentLogicFlawed.
Since there is no size fits all you could drive an enhancement where the behavior is configurable in the the configure screen.

Thank you, Peter. We'd like to revert to the old behaviour. Is there a patch or, failing that, are you able to point to the file(s) that may need changing? I've seen references in
UpdateAttachmentsDontWorkAsExpected to UI/Upload.pm, attach.tmpl, attachagain.tmpl and Store.pm; however, many of those files no longer exist.
If we're able to change to the earlier behaviour, we're happy to make it available to others.
Thanks, Keith

TWiki is a community driven open source project. I invite you to
get involved and provide a patch. Or if inclined,
hire a consultant to do that for you. It could be done with a new configure setting to set one or the other behavior.

It was my intent to get involved; however, if someone could identify the files that would need editing, that would be very helpful.

Closing this question after more than 30 days of inactivity. Feel free to reopen if needed. Consider engaging one of the
TWiki consultants if you need timely help. We invite you to
get involved with the community, it is more likely you get community support if you support the open source project!
